Diocese Breaks Ground for High School in Orange
The Diocese of Orange broke ground Friday for Santa Margarita Catholic High School in the Rancho Santa Margarita development near Trabuco Canyon.
The campus is scheduled to open next September and will enroll up to 2,000 students.
Plans for the 40-acre campus, located off the Santa Margarita Parkway, include an outdoor amphitheater and a sports center.
Sister Celine Leydon, superintendent of schools for the diocese, said: “The five Catholic schools in the diocese are filled to capacity. The new school will allow us to expand our capabilities by nearly 50%.”
Heading the campaign to raise funds for the school is Anthony R. Moiso, a member of the O’Neill family who donated the land to the diocese, and Arthur Birtcher. They estimated that $12.6 million will be needed to complete the school.
