Excellent Good Fair Poor : AUDIOCASSETTES

Compiled by Terry Atkinson

“Charles Dickens’ ‘David Copperfield.”’ Read By Paul Scofield. Dove. It seems, in the most artful sense, a telling rather than a reading. Scofield somehow becomes Copperfield the man remembering Copperfield the boy, and recalling that extraordinary gallery of Dickens characters--male and female, old and young, rich and poor, city and country. Maneuvering that marvelous voice like a musical instrument and never edging near to caricature or grotesquerie, Scofield is everyone in turn, including even the dreadful Uriah Heep. Masterful performance, delightful listening.
