Reagan’s 44 Budget Cuts Lose

WASHINGTON —
The Senate today overwhelmingly rejected President Reagan’s proposal to eliminate 44 domestic spending programs.
The 83-14 vote was a blast at the White House and budget Director James C. Miller III, who has suggested that Congress avoid a tax hike or military spending slowdown by pruning domestic programs and changing its economic forecasts.
