University of California, Santa Barbara, students voted more than 3 to 1 against Chancellor Robert Huttenback in a non-binding confidence poll conducted as part of the university’s spring election. About 4,700 students--about one-third of the student body--cast ballots. About 66% voted against the chancellor, 20% voted in his favor and the rest were undecided. Student leaders claim that Huttenback has formed his own student advisory council to bypass student government and that he is unresponsive to their concerns. He is the subject of an audit by the University of California for possible misuse of university funds. Several weeks ago, a group of faculty leaders had suggested that Huttenback resign.
