Four Civil Guards Reported Killed by Bomb in Madrid

MADRID —
At least four Civil Guards were killed early today when a car bomb exploded next to a guard van in central Madrid, Spanish radio said.
They said at least six other people, including pedestrians, were seriously injured.
Police said earlier that the explosion also destroyed a telephone booth, damaged vehicles and shattered windows in a block-wide area.
The police account also said the explosion was believed to have been caused by a car bomb and that it occurred at 7:28 a.m.
