Agent Tom Reich said the Pittsburgh Pirates are in for a “bundle of surprises” in their breach-of-contract suit filed against Dave Parker, a client of Reich’s.

Pittsburgh Associates, the new owners of the Pirates, claim that Parker, who now plays for the Cincinnati Reds, breached the five-year contract he signed with the club in 1979 because of his admitted use of cocaine. The Pirates are seeking to void deferred payments of more than $5.3 million to Parker that are scheduled to begin in 1988 and run through 2007.

Said Reich: “I guarantee you that if this club thinks that they had nothing to lose because they owed the money and figured if they lose, all they have to do is pay the money, they are going to be in for a bundle of surprises, which I will not get into at this time.”
