Local News in Brief : Sherman Oaks Man Kills Wife, Shoots Himself, Police Say
A 39-year-old Sherman Oaks man was booked on suspicion of shooting his wife to death Sunday afternoon in North Hollywood, then firing one bullet into his own head, police said.
Juan L. Urraca shot his wife, Alma Yolanda Uracca, 37, several times in the chest with a handgun after chasing her for several blocks on Whitsett Avenue, Los Angeles Police Detective Howard Landgren said.
Urraca was in critical condition Sunday night at County-USC Medical Center jail ward, Landgren said.
Neighbors told police that the couple had been separated for two weeks, Landgren said. The Urracas’ 12-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son were present at the shooting, police said.
