Baby Rachel Gets New Heart

Baby Rachel, whose doctors launched an unusual public appeal for a donated heart to save her life, received a heart transplant early today, Loma Linda University Medical Center announced.
The operation on the 3 1/2-month-old girl, whose real name has been kept secret, was considered a success, a hospital spokesman said. The surgery was performed by Dr. Leonard Bailey, who has performed at least three other successful infant-to-infant heart transplants.
