Baltimore Drops Bid to Be Democrats’ Host

This city has withdrawn its bid for the 1988 Democratic National Convention because it lacks sufficient hotel rooms, the executive director of the Baltimore Convention Bureau said Tuesday.

Baltimore and nearby communities have about 10,000 first-class hotel rooms, but the convention officials said they would need at least 12,000 rooms. The city also was unable to meet the minimum requirement of 250,000 square feet of convention space.
