Afghan Chief Returns, Ends Rumors of Ouster

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan —
Afghan Communist leader Babrak Karmal returned home today after undergoing medical treatment in the Soviet Union, quieting speculation that he had been removed from power.
Karmal arrived in the Afghan capital of Kabul on a special plane from Moscow.
