Space Shot Delayed 24 Hours
Plans for NASA’s first space launch here since the Challenger disaster were scrubbed for at least 24 hours today because of fears of a leak on a Delta rocket that was to carry a weather satellite into orbit.
National Aeronautics and Space Administration spokesman Hugh Harris did not describe the exact location of the leak. The satellite, which had been scheduled for launch at 3:18 p.m. PDT, is designed to fill a critical surveillance void during the coming hurricane season. The flight had attracted considerable attention because of the explosions of the space shuttle Jan. 28 and of a Titan 34-D rocket in California on April 18.
