Tennessee House Speaker to Seek Governorship

ROCKY MOUNT, Tenn. —
Tennessee House Speaker Ned Ray McWherter announced Thursday that he will seek the Democraticnomination for governor in the Aug. 7 primary. Former Gov. Winfield Dunn is unopposed for the GOP nomination to replace Republican Gov. Lamar Alexander, who must step down because state law says he cannot serve more than two consecutive terms.
