$300 Scholarships Offered to Latino Compton Students
For the third consecutive year, graduating students of Mexican-American descent at Centennial, Compton, Dominguez and Regina Caedli Catholic high schools and Compton Adult School may apply for $300 grants sponsored by the Juan Candia Memorial Scholarship Foundation. Qualified applicants will demonstrate financial need and a potential for success in higher education.
In late May, the locally based foundation--which is named after the late Compton Unified School District teacher and administrator--will announce six awards with the option to renew if students meet certain criteria.
Students may contact their counselors for application information. Completed forms must be submitted by May 9 to Victor Yepez, Building D., 417 W. Alondra Blvd. Information may be obtained by calling (213) 639-4321, Ext. 5559.
