The new president of the 370,000-member Sierra Club is Lawrence Downing, a trial lawyer from Oronoco, Minn. Downing, elected at the environmental group’s annual meeting in San Francisco, has been active in the club since 1969 and has been a board director for the past four years. He has been a member of the Minnesota Governor’s Task Force on Energy Policy and the Minnesota Governor’s Power Plant Siting Advisory Committee.
