In an attempt to end a stockholders’ squabble, Rene Anselmo has resigned as president of the company that owns Los Angeles television station KMEX and four other Spanish-language TV stations in the United States. Anselmo, who has been the dominant figure in Spanish-language TV programming in the United States for the past 25 years, said he was urged to step down from his post at Spanish International Communications Corp. by Los Angeles U.S. District Judge Mariana R. Pfaelzer, who has been presiding over out-of-court negotiations to settle a lawsuit filed against Anselmo 10 years ago by several minority stockholders. By settling the suit, the owners of KMEX-TV and the other stations hope to resolve the objections of a federal administrative law judge, who stripped the stations of their broadcasting licenses, officials said. Emilio Nicolas, general manager of KWEX-TV in San Antonio, will succeed Anselmo, who retains a seat on the stations’ board of directors.
