Shcharansky’s Wife Pregnant
Former Soviet dissident Anatoly Shcharansky, released last February after spending eight years in jail and allowed to go to Israel, will visit the United States this week but will not be accompanied by his wife, who is pregnant, a spokesman said today.
The announcement that his wife, Avital, would not be traveling with him on advice from her doctor was the first disclosure that the couple is expecting a child. Shcharansky, 38, is to arrive in New York on Sunday and meet with President Reagan next week.
