Two days after announcing he would leave the University of Virginia to turn professional, junior center Olden Polynice said he had changed his mind and will remain in school.

However, Polynice will be suspended from the basketball team until at least January 1987, when a special committee will determine if he has met several requirements set by the university.

Polynice, in a statement issued through the school’s athletic department, said his “life has been a turmoil lately. I have been having a lot of personal problems which have resulted in behavior which is unacceptable to me as well as to my family, my coaches, my teammates and the university.”

Polynice was accused Wednesday of stealing a $16.97 stereo headset from a department store in Charlottesville, Va. He will appear in General District Court on May 30 to answer the misdemeanor charge.
