Despite all that’s been written about such contemporary standouts as Willie, Waylon and Loretta, no one since Hank Williams has done more than Cash to strengthen country music--artistically and commercially. This especially bright-sounding 16-song collection, manufactured in Japan, doesn’t document all of his influence and importance, but the late ‘50s Sun recordings--signature tracks such as “Folsom Prison Blues” and country-rock experiments like “Home of the Blues”--serve as an enticing introduction. 1/2
