Snow, cold rain and strong winds joined forces in an assault on the northern Rockies and Plains, making for hazardous travel, while hurricane-force winds tore through Browns Valley, Minn. Thunderstorms that stacked hail three inches deep north of Edmonson, Tex., moved northeast into the Mississippi Valley. Meanwhile, an estimated 300,000 to 500,000 Utah residents fasted and prayed for dry weather, but a gusty spring storm pushed the surging Great Salt Lake closer to its highest recorded level.
