Ford Motor Co. is recalling 1,400 Cargo trucks because of faulty parking brakes, and 115,000 cars for inspection and adjustment of transmission hydraulic pressure control cables.

Owners of 1986-model Cargo trucks, made by Ford and imported from Brazil, are asked to take them to their dealers for replacement of the rear-wheel parking brake wedge. The brake could fracture and lose holding power, the company said.

John P. King, service engineering manager of Ford’s Parts and Service Division, said that Ford was unaware of any accidents or injuries caused by the faulty parking brakes.

Ford also said it was recalling 115,000 of its 1986 Ford Crown Victorias, Thunderbirds and Mustangs; Lincoln Town Cars, Mark VIIs and Continentals; and Mercury Grand Marquis, Cougars and Capris for inspection and adjustment of the transmission cables.

Poorly adjusted cables on automatic-overdrive transmissions could cause clutch damage, Ford said. The company said the recall of cars was not safety-related.
