Pac-10 Golf : Randolph Is Leading by Three, and USC Holds 7-Stroke Lead in Team Competition

Sam Randolph of USC maintained a three-shot lead in the individual competition after Tuesday’s third round of the Pacific 10 Conference golf championships.

Meanwhile, the host Trojans kept their advantage in the team competition, but it was cut to seven strokes over Oregon.

Randolph carded his second straight three-over-par 75 at the Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, giving him a 54-hole score of 222 entering today’s final round. Don Walsworth of Stanford was alone in second place at 225 after his third straight 75.

Bill Mayfair of Arizona State moved into third place at 226 by firing a one-under-par 71. Terrence Miskell of USC and Jeff Bloom of Washington were tied for fourth at 228. Both had third-round scores of 73.

Next at 229 was Alberto Valenzuela of UCLA, followed by Rich Bietz of Arizona State at 230. Ed Harper of USC was at 231, while Rich Greenwood of UCLA was tied at 233 with Paul Weinhold and Steve Rintoul, both of Oregon.

The Trojans had a team total of 1,154 after carding a 375 in the third round. The Ducks, who totaled 367 in the third round, were at 1,161.

In third place at 1,169 was UCLA, followed by Arizona State at 1,171, Stanford at 1,181, Washington at 1,183, Arizona at 1,199, Oregon State at 1,214, California at 1,227, and Washington State at 1,241.
