Pasadena : Added Parking Planned

Despite the loss next year of two parking lots in the city’s busy downtown area, finding a place to park in Old Pasadena should not be a problem, city officials said. Under a new strategy presented this week by city traffic engineer David Barnhart, more than twice as many parking spaces will be available in Old Pasadena when the city begins construction in January of two parking structures on sites now occupied by surface lots.

The new parking plan calls for measures that include renting parking spaces from the nearby Ralph M. Parsons Company and creating additional street parking. A third parking structure, to be built by developer John Wilson at the corner of Fair Oaks Avenue and Union Street, is scheduled for completion in August and will provide an additional 840 parking spaces for the area. Construction of the city’s two parking structures, which will be located at 35 S. DeLacey Ave. and 33 E. Green St., will take about 10 months, city officials said.
