West Hollywood : City to Work on Its Image

The City Council has voted to create a nonprofit corporation to devise a promotion and marketing program to bolster West Hollywood’s image and lure new businesses to the city.

The city is committing $500,000 in the coming fiscal year to set up the private agency. It will be run by a nine-member board composed of business and civic leaders and chosen by the City Council.

The staff of the corporation is expected to be small, consisting of an executive director, an administrative assistant and a secretary. Their tasks will include promoting city events, advertising and developing a promotional videotape and slide presentation.

The corporation was suggested last year by a consultant. Several business leaders had suggested that West Hollywood’s image was not being reported properly by the press and, as a result, the city was in danger of losing new businesses and industries.
