Countywide : Nine From County Win Merit Scholarships

In the third and final round of this year’s National Merit Scholar winners, Orange County had nine of the 128 scholarships awarded in California during the last round, the National Merit Scholarship Corp. announced on Wednesday.

The corporation, based in Evanston, Ill., noted that the final round of 1986 National Merit Scholarships was financed by 200 U.S. colleges and universities. The scholarships being awarded in this round vary from $1,000 to $8,000.

The third-round Orange County scholarship winners are: Daniel C. Reed, Loara High School, Anaheim; Jennifer L. Booth, Costa Mesa High; Michael R. Galant, Estancia High, Costa Mesa; Mark E. Morgan, El Toro High; Kara A. Chandler, Sunny Hills High, Fullerton; Rachel S. Landis, Laguna Hills High; Karen L. Dean, Mater Dei High, Santa Ana; Cheryl L. Minger, Villa Park High, and Stacey E. Lutz, La Quinta High, Westminster.
