An official of the B’nai B’rith told the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights on Friday that Lyndon H. LaRouche Jr. and his organization are spreading “anti-Semitic bigotry.”

Irwin J. Suall, director of fact-finding for the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith, likened LaRouche’s organizations to hate groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazi organizations.

He appeared at a briefing on LaRouche requested by the commission’s staff and its chairman, Clarence M. Pendleton Jr.

A spokeswoman for LaRouche, Dana Scanlon, said the LaRouche campaign is filing a complaint with the commission for holding the hearing without having contacted LaRouche spokesmen.

“As for Mr. LaRouche, he has been fighting anti-Semitism and bigotry all his life,” she said.

The civil rights commission, after hearing from Suall and two other people who have done research into the LaRouche groups, voted unanimously to direct its staff to report back in two months on what, if any, aspects of the LaRouche activities were within the commission’s jurisdiction.
