Why Can’t John Henry Rest on His Laurels?
Never has the difference between true race horse people (the Hancocks, Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt, etc.) and the nouveau riche, who know zilch about horses but want a stable to show their wealth but care nothing about the horse himself, been more apparent than in the case of John Henry and his greedy owners, the Rubins.
I suppose they want more money to defray the costs of his upkeep until he passes on. No true race horse person would dream of doing this. Why don’t they just donate him to a top breeding farm who would appreciate having him and give him the care and understanding he so richly deserves. They are a disgrace to racing.
