Sandona Wins Speedway Race
John Sandona of Riche Canyon won the the scratch main event of the weekly speedway motorcycle racing program Friday before 6,773 at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.
Sandona took the lead on the first lap and never trailed. Sam Ermolenko of Cypress was second, Steve Lucero of Riverside third and Brad Oxley of San Clemente finished fourth.
The current U.S. champion, Alan Christian of Huntington Beach, won the handicap main. Scott Brown of New York was second, Walt Farmun of Ventura third, Ed Castrol of Ojai fourth, Sam Ermolenko of Cypress fifth and Keith Crisco of Whittier sixth.
In the featured match race, Ermolenko defeated Lucero. Don Butler of Yucaipa won the second division main, and Keith Rylance of England won the third division main.
