BAD NEIGHBORLINESS

So the Soviets criticized Finland for showing “anti-Soviet movies” because such cinema does not contribute to “neighborliness.” What an ironic joke!

It wasn’t very “neighborly” of the Soviets to neglect telling their Finnish neighbors, until they couldn’t keep it a secret anymore, that clouds of nuclear pollution were on their way to the Scandinavian countries from a meltdown.

Such reprehensible indifference to human welfare proves more than ever that the films the Soviets objected to, like “Gorky Park” and “White Nights,” which involved intrigue and corruption in the Soviet Union, were actually understatements.
