FOOD FALLACY
People like film maker Vivienne Verdon-Roe and anti-nuclear activist Helen Caldicott have too narrow a vision to set themselves up as speakers for the rest of us (“ ‘Women’--Documentary With Anti-War Message,” by Zan Dubin, May 6).
It is a flawed premise to espouse that if nations spent less on arms, it would follow that world hunger would disappear. There’s no correlation between the two. One could just as well say that if nations stopped paving highways, building bridges or launching weather satellites, that the money would then go to eliminate hunger.
Unfortunately, hunger is far more complex and political an issue than that.
Most men have shown that they lack the qualities necessary to lead us in a peaceful, civilized fashion of life--and, sadly, biology alone has not shown that most women can do any better.
