About 20,000 Soviet emigres in California are getting news about the Chernobyl nuclear reactor accident through Russian-language radio station KMNB in Los Angeles. The station monitors local television broadcasts and translates them for subscribers. During a talk show last week, “our phones were just jammed up” with callers exchanging information about friends and family in the Chernobyl area, said program host Sergey Rakhlin.
