Teachers in Warren, R.I., overwhelmingly ratified a new contract, ending a three-week-old strike and allowing schools to reopen today for 1,400 students, officials said. Details of the new pact were not immediately released, but teachers went into the weekend sessions asking for a 16% raise over three years. Students, who missed 15 days of school because of the strike, will attend classes until July 9 to make up for days lost since the strike began April 21. Teachers had obeyed a judge’s back-to-work order for one day last week before resuming their walkout.
