“La Boheme.” Bel Canto/Paramount. $59.95. Franco Zeffirelli’s superlavish, hypertraditional production of the Puccini perennial looked odd at the Met in 1982. The sets dwarfed the singers. But it looked better on close-up oriented television--as it does in this memento. Teresa Stratas makes an exceptionally poignant waif of Mimi, and Jose Carreras complements her as an ardent, poetic Rodolfo. For once, visual credibility triumphs. The others, apart from Renata Scotto’s strident Musetta, are fine, and James Levine conducts with a nice fusion of brilliance and warmth. Subtitles.
