A pipe fell into an electrical wiring station at a downtown construction site, knocking out power to 40 high-rise buildings, authorities said. Alternative generators restored electricity to most buildings within seconds, but about 10, including the Broadway Plaza at 7th and Flower streets, were without power for an hour, Department of Water and Power spokesman Steve Henderer said. A construction worker using a jackhammer in a building under construction at 880 S. Figueroa St. apparently knocked the pipe into the wiring, Henderer said.
