The head of Navy intelligence for the Pacific fleet testified that among documents allegedly stolen by accused spy Jerry A. Whitworth were detailed and highly classified plans for anti-submarine warfare and air warfare against the Soviet Union off the Kamchatka Pennisula. Capt. Charlie R. Jones Jr. said the secret plans had “incalculable value” because they reflect naval strategy. Whitworth, on trial for spying, allegedly obtained the plans during his tour on the aircraft carrier Enterprise in early 1983, when it joined two other carriers and 35 to 40 cruisers and destroyers in a major exercise off Kamchatka. Admitted spy John A. Walker Jr. testified earlier he and Whitworth photographed the documents, and Walker passed them to Soviet agents in 1984.
