President Reagan plans to begin lobbying Jewish leaders to help him lean on GOP senators to vote to allow the sale of $354 million in U.S. missiles to Saudi Arabia, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said today.

Sen. Richard G. Lugar (R-Ind.) said Reagan will ask the Jewish leaders to come to Washington, possibly beginning next week, in support of his policy and to help serve as “a helpful force in re-establishing the President’s credibility.” Lugar contended that Israel’s security will erode if Congress blocks the sale to the Saudis.
