Norwalk : No Action on Voter Cards
A Norwalk Superior Court judge on Tuesday declined to take any action on a request to restrain Edward K. Waters--a Democratic candidate in the June 3 primary for the 54th Assembly District--from continuing to mail absentee voter ballot applications that an opponent claims are illegal.
The opponent, Kent A. Spieller, contended that the post card applications violate a new state election law. Spieller said the post cards are addressed to a Waters campaign office as an “intentional misrepresentation.” Under the law, Spieller contended, they should be sent to county election officials.
Waters’ lawyer, Tom Patterson, said “there’s nothing in the law” requiring that the post cards be mailed directly to election officials.
After listening to both sides in his chambers, Judge Ralph A. Biggerstaff decided that he would need backup documents from Spieller before he could issue a ruling. Spieller’s attorneys said they would provide the documents.
