San Diego State and United States International University will compete in the NCAA women’s tennis championships beginning today in Austin, Tex.

Sixth-seeded San Diego State meets Oklahoma State in today’s first round. USIU, seeded 12th, will face No. 5 seed Miami.

Stanford is seeded first in the 16-team tournament, followed by USC and Trinity (Tex.). If San Diego State (14-10) wins its first-round match, it will meet the winner of today’s Trinity-Kentucky match in the quarterfinals. SDSU beat Trinity, 6-3, earlier this season.

Last year, the Aztecs won their first-round match in the NCAA tournament before being eliminated by national champion USC. San Diego State reached the national semifinals in 1984, and has reached the national quarterfinals five straight years.
