Talk about runaway production.

Embassy’s filming a two-hour CBS biodrama starring Nancy McKeon as Cindy Fralick, the first female firefighter in the 60-year history of the Los Angeles County Fire Department--in Vancouver .

The one-word reason from director Robert Lewis for this civic embarrassment: “Cost.”

The primary obstacle in faking L.A.: pouring rain, which has plagued the shoot since it began in mid-April. “The biggest problem is the blue shirts (of the firefighters),” said Lewis. “They stain.” Surely, he was aware Vancouver was going to be wet. “But not this wet.”

Lewis said the L.A. county fire folks are cooperating “100%” with script research, uniforms, equipment, consultation on firefighting techniques, etc.
