A 29-year-old San Diego man was shot and killed in a Normal Heights apartment Friday afternoon, and his alleged assailant was arrested moments later, police reported.

The victim, Freddie Kenneth Keaton, lived in an apartment in the 400 block of 39th Street.

Police, who were flagged down by a woman running down Meade Avenue near 40th Street, found Keaton lying in the front room of an adjacent apartment about 4:20 p.m.

He had been shot in the back twice with a .22-caliber rifle, police said.

Police were met in the driveway by J.D. Martin Jr., 38, of San Diego. Martin was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder, police said.
