Brenda Premo, 34, executive director of the Dayle McIntosh Center for the Disabled, has been appointed by President Reagan to the National Council on the Handicapped, a body that reviews federal laws, programs and policies affecting the disabled.
Premo, who is legally blind, has been an advocate on behalf of the physically handicapped since the mid-1970s, when she helped to organize the Disabled Students Coalition at Cal State Long Beach.
In 1977, Premo helped lay the groundwork for the McIntosh Center and was named its first director at age 25. She has held that position since.
Premo, a graduate of Marina High School in Huntington Beach, has also served as chairwoman of the California Coalition of Independent Living Centers.
