‘Armenian Anguish’

Your second editorial clarifies somewhat the position of the previous editorial. I say somewhat because you offhandedly write, referring to the Armenian genocide in which one-half million perished, “The Armenians call this genocide,” adding, “it is the somber privilege of the victims to name it what they will.”

It is not the Armenians alone who name it genocide. The world knows it was and so does Turkey. What would you call it?

For the record:

In a letter from Aram Tolegian (May 19) it was incorrectly stated, due to a typographical error, that one-half million Armenians perished at the hands of the Turks. The correct number is one and one-half million.

The victims, thank you, can do without the “privilege,” somber or not, but the world’s obligation to name it genocide goes without saying.
