Crash-test results on 1986 models by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also showed a relatively high likelihood of serious head injury or death in a 35-m.p.h. crash of the Saab 9000S four-door hatchback and the Volkswagen Scirocco two-door hatchback. The American Motors Comanche pickup truck was rated 1,147 for its driver and 1,636 for its front-seat passenger on head injury scores, with 1,000 considered the approximate level above which serious injuries are expected. The Saab was rated 773 for its driver and 1,443 for front-seat passenger, and the Scirocco scored 887 for driver and 1,070 for front-seat passenger.
