AFI SEEKS 10 WRITERS FOR TV TRAINING

The American Film Institute will select 10 new writers to work with professionals in television comedy July 7 through July 25 at the AFI Television Workshop in Los Angeles.

The program, under the direction of veteran producer and television programmer Perry Lafferty, will allow writers to develop original comedy television scripts with staged readings, videotaped selected scenes and discussions with faculty and guests.

The 10 writers will work with a faculty that includes Allan Burns, Sid Caesar, Gary Goldberg and Mort Lachman. In addition, NBC-TV network will establish the William H. Cosby Jr. Scholarship for two minority comedy writers who will be among the 10 selected for the AFI program.

To qualify, writers must submit original TV comedy scripts and applications to: TV Writers Summer Program, AFI TV Workshop, Box 27999, 20021 N. Western Ave., Los Angeles, 90027. Applications must be received by June 6. Information: (213) 856-7743.
