A woman who rammed her pickup truck through the plate glass doors of the U.S. Courthouse downtown was sentenced Wednesday to two years in federal prison.

Dorna Lee Lovelace, 42, of National City, was given the term by U.S. District Judge Gordon Thompson, who specified that she be confined at the prison in Springfield, Mo., which has medical psychiatric facilities.

Assistant U.S. Atty. Charles Gorder said Lovelace rammed the building on Oct. 26, 1985, at 1:30 a.m. because she was mad at the federal government.

“She’s told many different stories as to why she did it,” Gorder said.

Lovelace first told police she was angry at the Social Security Administration, which is housed in another building. She later said she was angry at the U.S. attorney’s office for not acting on some allegations she made about some relatives.

The crash caused $2,000 in damages, and the entrance was boarded up for many months afterward.

Lovelace was convicted Feb. 5 of destruction of government property after failing to return to court on the second day of her trial. She forfeited her $10,000 bond and was arrested again as a fugitive the next week.
