Former Cook County Circuit Judge Reginald J. Holzer was sentenced to 18 years in prison Wednesday for his role in the federal Greylord investigation of judicial corruption.

Holzer, the sixth judge convicted in the investigation of the nation’s largest court system, received the stiffest sentence so far.

In imposing the sentence, U.S. District Judge Prentice Marshall said: “The rancid breath of corruption infected the courts of general jurisdiction.”

Holzer was convicted in February of shaking down attorneys and others with court business for $200,000 in loans.

Marshall sentenced Holzer to 18 years for extortion, 18 years for racketeering and five years for mail fraud.
