A former probationary police officer at California State University, Long Beach, who sued the university on charges that he had been singled out for discrimination because he is a Latino, was awarded more than $32,000 in damages by a Los Angeles federal court jury Thursday.

“I feel that I have been vindicated,” Henry Terrazas, 28, said.

The Pico Rivera man filed suit in May, 1983, charging that campus Police Chief Jack R. Brick and Lt. Herbert Bragg discriminated against him, harassed him and finally fired him on March 1, 1982. Jurors assessed compensatory damages of $16,030 from each of the two officers.
