The start of former Manson “family” follower Leslie Van Houten’s parole hearing at the California Institution for Women at Frontera was postponed indefinitely. State Board of Prison Terms Chairman Frank Coronado halted the proceedings when Van Houten’s parole lawyer, Dan Mrotek, objected that her trial attorney, Maxwell Keith, had not been informed of the hearing as required by law. Los Angeles County Deputy Dist. Atty. Steven Kay also pointed out that Van Houten, serving a life term for murder, had refused to undergo a psychiatric evaluation preparatory to the hearing. Coronado said a new hearing date probably would be scheduled within 90 days.
