Los Alamitos : Chase N Easy Top Qualifier in Derby Field
Chase N Easy heads a balanced field of 10 3-year-olds in tonight’s 33rd running of the $142,000 Los Alamitos Derby at Los Alamitos Race Course.
Chase N Easy, ridden by James Lackey, had the Derby’s fastest qualifying time of 21.80 seconds. After winning four of five starts in 1985, Chase N Easy has won five of eight races in 1986.
Though the horse has been a consistent winner, it has entered mainly lower-grade events. The Derby’s first-place purse of $73,996 is more than double Chase N Easy’s career earnings of $35,069.
In fact, Chase N Easy has the second-lowest career earnings in the race, exceeding only Polished Pride’s $25,167. Polished Pride, tied for the fifth-fastest qualifying time with Chingaderos at 21.89, has earned just $612 in 1986.
Streakin Dash, with a time of 21.82, is the second-fastest qualifier and has career earnings of $238,367. Solvency, who tied for the third-best qualifying time with Juana Mystica at 21.86, is one of the field’s most successful horses, with career earnings of $609,567.
Rounding out the Los Alamitos Derby field are Kipcash and Rocky Jones, who both qualified at 21.95, Stars In Her Crown (21.97) and Doluino (21.99).
