COMMENCEMENT 1986 : Chapman College

Chapman College held its commencement Sunday afternoon with ceremonies in front of Memorial Hall on campus. Among the graduates were 24 members from the Class of 1936 who participated in the traditional 50-year “re-graduation” of alumni.

Degrees: 459 bachelors’ degrees and 199 masters’ degrees.

Speakers: Dr. J.W. Peltason, chancellor of the University of California, Irvine, delivered the commencement address on the general theme of celebration.

Honorary Degrees:

Dr. J.W. Peltason, “among the most renowned leaders of higher education,” doctor of humane letters.

Dr. John O. Humbert, general minister and president of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), doctor of humane letters.

Dr. Avery D. Post, president of the United Church of Christ and CEO of the General Synod, doctor of laws.
