Former riding great Eddie Arcaro was listed in serious but stable condition at a Miami hospital, two days after undergoing open-heart surgery.
Dr. Malcolm Dorman said the 70-year-old, five-time Kentucky Derby winner will remain in intensive care for a few days and will be in the hospital about 10 days.
“Basically he had his carotid artery cleaned out--it was done elsewhere three times before--and bypass surgery for the second time,” said Dorman, who preformed the five-hour operation Friday at Miami’s Heart Institute.
Arcaro, 70, is awake and alert, Dorman said.
